About Thathasthu Herbals

Thathasthu Herbals is an Ayurvedic company in Ambalavayal, Wayanad — the high-altitude district of Kerala where a great many of the medicinal plants the classical texts call for actually grow.

The company was started by a group of young entrepreneurs from the district and is led by Mullamkuzhiyil Varghese Jacob, who is from Wayanad and spent a decade in clinical workflows, hospital administration and over-the-counter product commercialisation before this. We run the business the way a modern business is run — stock control, batch records, documentation you can ask to see — around formulations a great deal older than any of us.

We do two things. We make our own licensed Ayurvedic medicines, and we stock the range of Aswini Ayurvedic Pharmacy, the licensed manufacturer down the road at Sulthan Bathery. We are clear on every page about which is which, because that is the one thing you cannot find out about most Ayurvedic brands sold online.

Where the raw material comes from

Wayanad's forests are worked by indigenous communities who have collected from them for generations and who know which plant, which part, and which season. Part of what goes into these products is wild-foraged by them — forest honey, roots and botanicals that are not grown commercially and cannot be bought as cultivated stock.

We buy from those collectors directly and pay them directly. It costs more than buying cultivated material through a trader, and it is the reason we can say where a given lot of honey or root came from.

What we make

We hold our own drug licence — Loan Licence No. 11/25E/2024, issued to Thathasthu Herbals by the Deputy Drugs Controller (Ayurveda), Kerala, on 3 June 2024. It covers two approved formulations:

Product Approved product code
Thrupthan Migraine Oil, 100 ml KL 11/25E/2024-AYU.(P)/001
Samhara Skin Solution, 50 ml KL 11/25E/2024-AYU.(P)/002

These are our formulations, approved under our licence, and manufactured for us at the GMP-certified premises of Aswini Ayurvedic Pharmacy under their technical supervision. That arrangement — a loan licence — is explained in full on our Licences & Manufacturing page.

What we stock

Five products made by Aswini Ayurvedic Pharmacy under their own Manufacturing Licence 10/25D/2018: Vasabringamalakadi and Karmukhil hair oils, Orthokare joint oil, Diacare, and Sidhikalpam Rasayanam.

We buy these direct from the manufacturer rather than through distributors or the open market. That means correct stock rotation, correct storage, and no chance of a repacked or counterfeit product reaching you through us.

We are not Aswini and we do not claim to be. Their licence is theirs; ours is ours. Both numbers are published on this site and printed on the packs.

Our manufacturing partner

M/s. Aswini Ayurvedic Pharmacy
Door No. SB.13/IA, Chethalayam P.O.
Sulthan Bathery, Wayanad, Kerala 673592

Their unit works to Schedule T of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules under GMP certificate G.M.P. 976 (Form 26 E-1), valid through 24 July 2028, issued by the Government of Kerala. They manufacture their own range under Licence 10/25D/2018, and they manufacture our two formulations for us under our loan licence and their technical supervision.

Why we publish all of this

Buy Ayurvedic products online in India and you will find plenty of stores with a heritage story, a leaf motif and no licence number anywhere. Some are reselling other people's products while claiming the maker's history as their own. You have no way of telling from the page.

So we took the opposite approach. Every product page names the manufacturer, the licence, and — where it is our own formulation — the approved product code. Our seven checks for identifying genuine Ayurvedic medicine is a guide we wrote partly so you could run it on us.

Wayanad

Wayanad sits between 700 and 2,100 metres in the Western Ghats, with heavy monsoon rainfall and a cool climate. It is one of the better places in India to grow Ayurvedic medicinal plants, which is why the herbs in Karmukhil come from these hills and why an Ayurvedic manufacturing unit sits here at all.

“Kerala Ayurveda” is a phrase used loosely by sellers with no connection to the state. Ours comes with two addresses in one district and two licence numbers you can check.

Where we are going

Three things, in that order.

Modernise. Put classical formulations into packaging, labelling and documentation that a buyer anywhere can actually read and verify.

Standardise. The same controls on every batch, so the tenth jar matches the first.

Elevate. Meet the certification standards export markets ask for, so that a medicine made in Wayanad can be sold outside India on its own merits — and so that the collectors and the unit here get paid properly for it.

We are early in that work. We would rather say so than claim to have arrived.

How we write about our products

You will not find the word “cure” on this site, or “guaranteed”, or “permanent results”, or “no side effects”. Indian law does not permit advertising a drug as a treatment for certain named conditions, and responsible practice does not permit the rest of it either.

What you will find is what each formulation contains, in botanical names; how to use it, with quantities and timings; who it suits and who should avoid it; and on several pages, a plain statement of when you should see a doctor instead of buying anything from us.
